L\u2019oiseau n\u2019\u00e9tait pas venu tout de suite. Il l\u2019observait depuis le vieux bouleau de la cour, noir et brillant, immobile comme une ombre. Puis, avec prudence, il s\u2019\u00e9tait approch\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 partir de ce jour, un rituel est n\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chaque matin : le sifflement de la bouilloire, le peignoir pos\u00e9 sur ses \u00e9paules, le pain \u00e9miett\u00e9 dans la paume ouverte. D\u2019abord sur le toit, puis sur la rambarde. Elle inclinait la t\u00eate, comme un salut discret, avant de picorer \u2014 parfois directement dans la main de la femme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elle vivait seule depuis longtemps. Son mari \u00e9tait parti trop t\u00f4t. Son fils appelait de moins en moins. L\u2019appartement r\u00e9sonnait de silence. Mais sur le balcon, au lever du jour, elle n\u2019\u00e9tait plus seule. Elle parlait \u00e0 l\u2019oiseau de tout et de rien : du temps, de ses souvenirs, de ses douleurs au genou. La corneille restait l\u00e0, attentive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Six ans sans manquer un seul matin.<br>Sous la pluie.<br>Dans le froid.<br>M\u00eame quand elle devait s\u2019appuyer au mur pour tenir debout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Puis un jour, l\u2019oiseau ne vint pas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elle attendit. Longtemps. Les autres oiseaux traversaient la cour, mais pas lui.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le lendemain non plus.<br>Ni le surlendemain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quelques jours plus tard, des ouvriers abattirent le vieux bouleau. \u00ab Trop dangereux \u00bb, disaient-ils. Elle regarda l\u2019arbre tomber, le c\u0153ur serr\u00e9, comme si une part de sa routine s\u2019\u00e9croulait avec lui.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La v\u00e9rit\u00e9 arriva par hasard : une corneille retrouv\u00e9e morte dans la cour. Probablement empoisonn\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce n\u2019\u00e9tait \u00ab qu\u2019un oiseau \u00bb.<br>Mais pour elle, c\u2019\u00e9tait six ann\u00e9es de fid\u00e9lit\u00e9 silencieuse.<br>La certitude qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019aube, quelqu\u2019un viendrait pour elle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le lendemain, malgr\u00e9 tout, elle sortit sur le balcon. Sans miettes. Juste pour regarder le ciel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Une autre corneille se posa sur la rambarde. Plus petite. Plus m\u00e9fiante.
