Sans ralentir, elle s\u2019ouvrit soudainement sur le c\u00f4t\u00e9 \u2014 et un objet fut violemment projet\u00e9 sur le bas-c\u00f4t\u00e9, juste avant que le v\u00e9hicule ne red\u00e9marre \u00e0 toute vitesse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le r\u00e9flexe de Marc fut imm\u00e9diat. Il ralentit, s\u2019arr\u00eata sur la bande d\u2019arr\u00eat d\u2019urgence et descendit sous la pluie fine. L\u2019objet en question \u00e9tait un paquet grossi\u00e8rement emball\u00e9 dans une couverture sale, retenue par de la ficelle nou\u00e9e \u00e0 la va-vite. Ce qui le gla\u00e7a instantan\u00e9ment, c\u2019est que le paquet bougeait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quelque chose, ou quelqu\u2019un, \u00e9tait l\u00e0-dedans. Et \u00e7a respirait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les mains tremblantes, Marc s\u2019agenouilla. Il h\u00e9sita, puis d\u00e9fit les n\u0153uds, doucement, comme s\u2019il craignait de r\u00e9veiller un monstre. Lorsque le tissu s\u2019ouvrit, il resta fig\u00e9. Son c\u0153ur manqua un battement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans la couverture se trouvait un chiot \u2014 tout petit, tremp\u00e9, amaigri, mais vivant. Ses yeux noirs fixaient Marc sans peur, avec une sorte de r\u00e9signation silencieuse. L\u2019animal tremblait, son ventre se soulevait \u00e0 peine. On l\u2019avait jet\u00e9. Jet\u00e9 comme un d\u00e9chet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marc resta immobile, le regard plant\u00e9 dans celui de la petite cr\u00e9ature. Il sentit une col\u00e8re sourde monter en lui, m\u00eal\u00e9e d\u2019une immense tristesse. Comment pouvait-on faire cela ? Comment pouvait-on abandonner une vie innocente de cette fa\u00e7on ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Il prit le chiot contre lui, le blottit sous sa veste et retourna \u00e0 son camion. Il chauffa la cabine, sortit une vieille serviette, et posa l\u2019animal sur le si\u00e8ge passager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2014 Tu vas venir avec moi, petit, dit-il doucement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce jour-l\u00e0, le trajet de Marc fut diff\u00e9rent. Il n&#8217;\u00e9tait plus seul sur la route. Et ce paquet \u00e9trange, tomb\u00e9 de nulle part, devint le d\u00e9but d\u2019une nouvelle histoire.
